Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest and oldest conservation area, renowned for its dramatic waterfalls, diverse wildlife, and scenic landscapes. Located in northwestern Uganda, the park covers approximately 3,840 square kilometers and is bisected by the mighty River Nile, which flows through the heart of the park before plunging 45 meters down a narrow gorge to form the spectacular Murchison Falls. The centerpiece of the park is Murchison Falls, where the Nile River is forced through a 7-meter-wide cleft in the rocks, creating a powerful and thunderous cascade. A boat cruise to the base of the falls, followed by a hike to the top, offers stunning views and a close encounter with the raw force of nature. It also supports over 450 bird species, including the rare and prehistoric-looking shoebill stork. Boat Safaris One of the most iconic experiences is a boat cruise along the Nile—either to the base of the falls or downstream toward the delta where the Nile enters Lake Albert. These cruises provide excellent opportunities for birdwatching and viewing aquatic wildlife up close. Vegetation & Landscape Murchison Falls National Park features diverse habitats, from savannah and woodland to riverine forest and wetlands. This diversity supports a rich ecosystem and adds to the visual beauty of the park. Activities Game drives (especially in the northern section of the park) Boat cruises, Hikes to the top of the falls, Birdwatching, Chimpanzee tracking in nearby Budongo Forest
